The population of the United States in 1776 was...

2,527,460

Compared to today's states, it would rank as the 34th most populous, below Arkansas and above Utah.

The U.S. population has grown around 140 times larger, yet we're still doing well.

Talk about extensible.

Nice job, Founding Fathers.
