A tower in the desert

The Burj Dubai looks like it's going to be an amazing building. Twice as tall as the Empire State Building (click on the tower on the linked page to get a neat comparison chart to the world's next tallest buildings), by far, the world's tallest.

I wonder why the U.A.E. feels comfortable building such a thing smack in the middle of the Middle East?

It's clear that the stable countries of the Middle East fear terrorism far less than America's militant pro-war crowd.

Why?

What do they know that we don't?

They know that the petrodollars that supports terrorism all across the world has its origins in the middle east. Even though the terrorists dont like the westernisation of the middle east, they can ill afford to bite the hand that feeds them.

It's wholly unrelated to terrorism, it's that the tower will make them so very happy, alphie. They will look up at the tower and think "We built that tower. It is very big." And they will feel immensely pleased.

And also it's not as if the tower isn't going to be chock full of infidel ferners. Maybe it's the world's tallest gingerbread house. Ever think of that?
